Six Easy Steps
Code compliant and warranted installation instructions are available from your local Kroy dealer.
1. Layout railing and position posts
- The railing kits are designed for spacings of 6' or 8' between posts.
- Rails and inserts should be trimmed to length only after posts are installed.
- Check local codes for minimum railing height in your area
2. Install posts
- There are a number of methods for installing posts for a Kroy railing system. The two most common are outlined below. Refer to the detailed instructions for installation methods best suited to your project.
Wood Post Sleeve
- Clamp post in place and frame stringers around wood post in deck structure
- Fix post to stringers using 1/2" galvanized bolts, nuts & washers, plus 3/4" washers. Ensure 3/4" washers are between the 4 x 4 post and 1/2" washer.
- Slide composite post sleeve over 4 x 4 post (trimming post if necessary).
- Install post base trim on post sleeves prior to installation of rails. If bottom rail is to be less than 2 1/2" above deck level, notch base trim to accept rail.
Surface-mounted tower
- Bolt top 4 x4 adapter plate to top of the tower and bend flanges down to accept post.
- Place the tower in designated location on concrete or deck surface and mark location of four bolt holes in bottom 4 x 4 adapter plate. Make sure tower is centered over post location marks and remove tower.
- For concrete, use a masonry bit and drill four holes deep enough and large enough to accommodate chosen concrete fasteners.
- For wood decks, ensure additional wood surface adapter plates are installed under deck boards.
- Place tower back into desired position, plumbed using a level. If required, shim the tower base with stainless steel washers. Once level, secure to concrete anchors.
- Slide posts over the tower. If using a post trim, slide trim piece over the post tower first, then slide post over tower and into trim piece.
3. Prepare Bottom and Top Rails
- Measure and cut rails and inserts to allow enough room for brackets, plus an additional 1/8" for expansion and contraction.
- Adjust rail length equally at both ends. Do not cut at picket hole.
- Attach foot block bracket and post onto bottom face of bottom rail using four screws provided. Drill three equally-spaced drainage holes in bottom face and middle rib of bottom rail.
- Slide trim pieces onto rails.
4.Install Bottom Brackets and Rail
- Insert 2" x 3 1/2" brackets at both ends the bottom rail.
- Lower bottom rail into position between posts ensuring it is level.
- Mark and pre-drill location of mounting screws on post. Attach bottom rails and brackets. Slide trim into place.
5. Install Top Brackets and Rail
- Insert all pickets in bottom rail. Insert brackets at both ends the top rail.
- Lower top rail onto pickets\ensuring it is level. Mark and pre-drill location of mounting screws on post.
- Attach bracket to post using screws provided for each bracket. Ensure rail is level and bracket is centered on post.
- At corner posts, pre-drill 3/32" hole though bottom of bracket and rail and fix with screw.
6. Install top caps
- Apply glue to inside of cap and slide on to post. Use UV-rated, "hot glue" classified PVC adhesive.
